473 s473.JPGSmith and Wesson .38 special that had belonged to the client's grandfather. Research on this RARE weapon confirms that the "V" prefix in the number (V173769) was added by S&W to designate this a "Victory" gun when the United States entered World War II. S&W supplied the troops and provided the firearms to the countries of the Common Wealth on a Lend-Lease Agreement. Victory model revolvers were standard issue for Naval and Marine aviators as well as guards back in the states at defense installations and factories supporting the war effort. The majority of the "Victory Guns" were made in 1942-1945. A fascinating piece of history that no doubt you will want to add to your personal collection! In working condition.
